Kirill Petrenko conducts Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”“Strong, zealous, even evil and angry and dark” – this is how Felix Mendelssohn imagined the biblical prophet Elijah, the protagonist of his oratorio of the same name. Full of drama, the composer portrays a man who struggles to convert the people to the true faith – in vain, as he is forced to realise at the end. Under the direction of Kirill Petrenko, the distinguished baritone Christian Gerhaher takes on the role of Elijah.
